Volunteer Centre
The Volunteer Centre relies on the time and talents of more than 450 dedicated volunteers, whose involvement contributes to the success of the many programs and services of the YWCA Montreal.
Volunteering opportunities are varied and include: tutor, assistant, lawyer, mentor, peer helper, along with event preparation, translation, assisting food bank distribution, helping with administrative tasks and much more.
A 30-minute interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services will help potential volunteers choose the area best suited to their skills and interests.

Job description :
Tutors
Volunteers wanted to work as tutors with women in need of additional support in acquiring reading, writing and conversational skills, in French or in English. The meetings will be two hours each, once every week. The volunteers will plan the tutoring and support in accordance with the personal literacy needs of each participant. In addition, the volunteers shall attend a compulsory fifteen hour training, spread over two days.
This training is offered twice a year by the YWCA and is for women only. A minimum commitment of one year is required.
Guidance counsellors
The YWCA is looking for women wishing to act as guidance counsellors to women in need of extra support to return to the workforce. The candidates will undergo a free 15 hour training followed by the possibility of being paired with a participant once a week, at a place and time to be determined by both parties. The nature of the support will be according to the needs of each individual and could be either a linguistic or moral support, active listening, integration into society.
For women only. A minimum commitment of six months is required.
LawyersLawyers wanted to give legal information to the population of the Greater Montreal Region.
The candidate has to be a member of the Barreau du Québec. Law students are not accepted.
Translators
Volunteers wanted to translate texts from English to French or from French to English,
Diploma in translation or pertinent experience required. (The use of an automatic translation program is not accepted)
Experts in entrepreneurshipWomen volunteers wanted to support and promote the development of women entrepreneurs. The expert and the future entrepreneur will be paired in order to undertake a relationship which will last until the entrepreneur has reached her goal.
Admission criteria: Must be an entrepreneur or a business woman, should have good listening skills and be able to devote four hours a month to the program.
SecretarialVolunteers wanted to perform secretarial tasks such as data entry, research on the Web, answering calls or e-mails, revision and correction of texts, page layout, etc.
The candidates must have a good knowledge of Word and Excel as well as French or English (bilingualism is an asset). They should be available on weekdays, during office hours.
